INGOA is happy to announce plans for the 2020 annual Conference have been solidified.

This year’s INGOA conference is scheduled for the morning of August 29, 2020 at the Airport Holiday Inn or virtually.  We are also nesting this with the virtual NGAUS conference being held August 28-29, 2020.

Thanks to the INGOA Foundation and the INGOA Executive Board, they both discussed and passed a motion to provide grants, reimbursing up to $500, to Areas wishing to hold a conference watch party that weekend, see the letter of instruction below for more details.

UPDATE as of March 12, 2020:  

Membership of INGOA-

After meeting with the senior leadership of Iowa and the Enlisted Association of Iowa, a joint decision has been made to cancel this year’s Iowa National Guard Retired Officer Recognition Dinner and postpone both the officer and enlisted association activities currently scheduled for March 27-28, 2020. The retired officers that would have been recognized this year will be given the opportunity to be recognized next year.

INGOA will immediately begin notifying members; email, social media and telephone.

INGOA will be issuing full refunds for the recognition dinner to those that have RSVP’d and paid. For those that paid on-line, your refund will be done on-line. For those that sent cash or check, you will receive a refund check from INGOA. Please allow 14 days for your refunds. If you have not received a refund by March 27th please email the INGOA secretary at ingoa-secretary@iowaofficers.org.

For those with confirmed hotel reservations, please call the hotel to cancel them; the phone number for the Airport Holiday Inn is 515-287-2400.

Once we have determined when the association will conduct its annual business meeting and associated activities, we let our membership know through every communication avenue available to us. INGOA plans to work closely with the enlisted association and the INGOA foundation to plan the updated event.

As the president of INGOA, I thank you for your leadership in the Iowa National Guard and understanding as we ensure the health and welfare of our Soldiers, Airmen, family members and corporate members of the Iowa National Guard Officers Association.

In light of the current situation with the Coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak and out of an abundance of caution for the entire organization, we have determined it is in our best interest to cancel the Warrant Officer Ice Breaker events on the Friday the 27th of March and the Iowa National Guard Retiree Recognition dinner scheduled for Saturday the 28th of March.

We will postpone both the Officer and Enlisted Association’s business meetings and all Officer Professional Development events scheduled for Saturday the 28th until a future date later this year.

While it is unfortunate to cancel an event recognizing our 2019 Iowa National Guard officer retirees, I am confident it is the right decision for the health and safety of our Service members, our retires, our families and for our communities. We intend to recognize our 2019 retirees at next year’s dinner along with our 2020 retirees.

We make this decision now to give everyone sufficient time to cancel lodging reservations and for the Officer Association time to cancel the contract with the hotel for the venue and the meal. This will give all effected parties the ability to make refunds to those who have already made reservations and purchased tickets.

This decision does not signal a significant change to the present situation here in Iowa concerning the COVID-19 outbreak. At this time, the positive COVID-19 cases in Iowa are associated with travel outside the state and are not a result of community spread within the state. This decision is made in the light of protecting our organization from large gatherings and mitigating the risk of unintentionally spreading COVID-19.

My guidance to you all remains the same. Continue to follow the advice of public health experts: wash hands, cover coughs and sneezes, avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth, stay home when feeling ill, and minimize large group interactions when possible. Take care of yourselves and your families.
