Achievements

Doubled commissary privileges to 24 visits a year;

Achieved equity between reserve and active components in receiving
hazardous or imminent danger pay;

Extended for 2 years the early retirement for physical disability of
National Guard members with between 15 and 20 years of satisfactory
service;

Extended for 5 years the eligibility for veteran’s home loan guarantees
for members of the Selected Reserve;

Broadened Montgomery GI Bill Kicker coverage for educational assistance
and increased entitlement and re-enlistment benefits;

Extended time limitations for Selective Reserve use of the Montgomery
G.I. Bill from 10 years to 14 years;

Increased maximum amounts for prior service enlistment bonus to $8,000
for six years; $4,000 for three years; and $3,500
ARMY ACHIEVEMENTS
- Increased tier level of many of our units which
directly affected equipment fielding, operational tempo dollars, and
full time manning.
AIR ACHIEVEMENTS
- Maintained a minimum of 15 aircraft authorized in
each flight unit and provided over $20 million to the Director, Air
National Guard to improve Readiness across the force; $15 million for
F-16 engine upgrades
CONGRESS INCREASED GUARD FUNDING OVER $1 BILLION!
- Over the last
several years, the NGAUS has obtained more than $1 billion annually in
funding above the Pentagon's budget request for Army and Air National
Guard equipment, training and benefits.
LARGEST
INCREASE IN DEFENSE SPENDING IN 20 YEARS!!
- The 2003 Defense
Budget represents a $60 billion increase over the past two years, for a
total in $363 Billion in 2003, and provides for the largest increase in
defense spending in 20 years! This included a 4.1 – 6.5% (selected
mid-level grades) increase in drill pay, and further authorization for
greater full-time manning of units.
